What is the meaning of the different weather phenomena we have been seeing? One day you are experiencing winter like weather and the very next day it is like spring weather. Severe weather here, severe weather there, record highs in Australia, record lows in the States; every locality as it seems are having there share of strange weather.
Here are a few weather headlines.
Destructive storms reach East Coast as dangerous chills hit Northern Plains
High winds and heavy rains brought more misery to the Eastern Seaboard Thursday, a day after a squall line thundered across the South and produced widespread flooding, tornadoes and violent storms that leveled homes and killed at least two people.
Australia’s year of extreme weather has collected a fresh record with January posting the hottest average temperatures for the month on record.
With just a day’s data to be collected, the average of maximum and minimum temperatures for the month was 29.7 degrees. That tally was 1.79 degrees above the long-term average.
Short of a remarkably frigid final few hours for the month, January was all but certain to beat the previous record set in 1932, the weather bureau said.
The monthly result means the September-January period was also the hottest on record, beating the previous three highest in 2002-03, 2006-07 and 2009-10.
Those earlier years “were all El Nino and drought years, whereas that hasn’t been a factor this time,” said Blair Trewin, senior climatologist with the bureau’s national climate centre. “That makes it even more remarkable.”

Frequently we hear of earthquakes, of tempests and tornadoes, accompanied with thunder and lightning. Apparently these are capricious outbreaks of seemingly disorganized, unregulated forces. But God has a purpose in permitting these calamities to occur. They are one of His means of calling men and women to their senses. By unusual workings through nature God will express to doubting human agencies that which He clearly reveals in His Word. He will answer the question, “Who hath gathered the wind in His fists?” He will reveal Himself as the One who “maketh the clouds His chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind.” “He bringeth the wind out of His treasuries.” “The Lord sitteth upon the flood; yea, the Lord sitteth King for ever.” “He gave to the sea His decree, that the waters should not pass His commandment: when He appointed the foundations of the earth.” “He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: He toucheth the hills, and they smoke.” – {19MR 279.3}
Local disturbances in nature are permitted to take place as symbols of that which may be expected all over the world when the angels loose the four winds of the earth.The forces of nature are under the direction of an Eternal Agency. Science, in her pride, may seek to explain strange happenings on land and on sea; but science fails of tracing in these things the workings of Providence. Science fails of perceiving that intemperance is the cause of most of the frequent accidents so terrible in their results. – {19MR 280.1} – 19MR 279-280
Let us not fail to see the workings of Providence in nature, let us not fail to awake before it is ever too late.
“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21:28)
“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?
Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.” (Matthew 24:44-46)
