The government shutdown and the debt ceiling

One crisis after another, when does it all end?  Where are we in the process of time?  “Thus saith the Lord GOD; An evil, an only evil, behold, is come. An end is come, the end is come: it watcheth for thee; behold, it is come. The morning is come unto thee, O thou that dwellest in the land: the time is come, the day of trouble is near, and not the sounding again of the mountains. (Ezekiel 7:5-7)

Whether or not an agreement is reached before the “debt ceiling” deadline, or whether or not the government reopens, it does not change the fact that the entire world is in agitation, and is “on the verge of a stupendous crisis”.  We are moving from crisis to crisis and even living within multiple crises.

We are standing upon the threshold of great and solemn events. Prophecies are fulfilling. Strange, eventful history is being recorded in the books of heaven. Everything in our world is in agitation. … Events are changing to bring about the day of God which hasteth greatly. Only a moment of time, as it were, yet remains. ” Testimonies for the Church 6:14. {ChS 51.5}

The Chinese government that has invested heavily in the US government bonds, are expressing concerns over the “government shutdown” and the”debt ceiling” and they are calling for a “new world order

“As U.S. politicians of both political parties are still shuffling back and forth between the White House and the Capitol Hill without striking a viable deal to bring normality to the body politic they brag about, it is perhaps a good time for the befuddled world to start considering building a de-Americanized world,” said Xinhua.

China has more than a passing interest in a possible U.S. default; it is by far the biggest holder of American debt, some $1.28 trillion.

Xinhua also editorialized: “Days when the destinies of others are in the hands of a hypocritical nation have to be terminated, and a new world order should be put in place, according to which all nations, big or small, poor or rich, can have their key interests respected and protected on an equal footing.” USA TODAY

Neither the US government, nor any other government in the world has the answer for the perplexities that we face today, the answer to all of man’s perplexity can be found in the word of God.

There are not many, even among educators and statesmen, who comprehend the causes that underlie the present state of society. Those who hold the reins of government are not able to solve the problem of moral corruption, poverty, pauperism, and increasing crime. They are struggling in vain to place business operations on a more secure basis. If men would give more heed to the teaching of God’s word, they would find a solution of the problems that perplex them.” {9T 13.3}

What is all these crisis leading to, “the mark of the beast”, “the Sunday Law”

  And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. (Revelation 13:16-17)

prepare to meet thy God, O Israel. (Amos 4:12)

Everything in the world is in agitation

Truly it has never been this clear that we are living at the end of time, everything is in agitation, once again the US is about to officially inject itself into another war. The world is already unstable without another war, the middle east is already unstable as it is, and another war in that region can only put the entire word in an even more precarious situation.

Everything in the world is in agitation. The signs of the times are ominous. Coming events cast their shadows before. The Spirit of God is withdrawing from the earth, and calamity follows calamity by sea and by land. There are tempests, earthquakes, fires, floods, murders of every grade. Who can read the future? Where is security? There is assurance in nothing that is human or earthly. Rapidly are men ranging themselves under the banner they have chosen. Restlessly are they waiting and watching the movements of their leaders. There are those who are waiting and watching and working for our Lord’s appearingAnother class are falling into line under the generalship of the first great apostate. Few believe with heart and soul that we have a hell to shun and a heaven to win. – {DA 636.1}

US-planned-nuclear-war-on-Russia-China-640x300

We will briefly look at seven of the worlds recent / current agitations. The first agitation we will look at is war.

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” (Matthew 24:6-8)  It is the mercies of God why we are not at war with Korea, Iran, or at least for the time being Syria(while the US congress vote on whether or not to declare war).  Man today are in possession some very dangerous weapons such as nuclear, that can kill millions, but God still has a work for his people to do and it is not until God allows it that the major wars will begin.

The present is a time of overwhelming interest to all living. Rulers and statesmen, men who occupy positions of trust and authority, thinking men and women of all classes, have their attention fixed upon the events taking place about us. They are watching the strained, restless relations that exist among the nations. They observe the intensity that is taking possession of every earthly element, and they recognize that something great and decisive is about to take place—that the world is on the verge of a stupendous crisis. {Ed 179.5}
Angels are now restraining the winds of strife, that they may not blow until the world shall be warned of its coming doom; but a storm is gathering, ready to burst upon the earth; and when God shall bid His angels loose the winds, there will be such a scene of strife as no pen can picture. {Ed 179.6}
Debt crisis

Coming New Economy

The second agitation we will consider is the global economic crisis, that started back in the year 2008.  The major economic powers of the world are feeling the hardest crunch, America, Japan, Europe.  This is the final economic crisis that will usher in the mark of the beast. “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.” (Revelation 13:16-18)  In the book of James, chapter 5 we read:

Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you. Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh”. (James 5:1-8)

Clearly, this prophecy of James chapter 5 is being fulfilled, “Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord.”

The third agitation is that of homosexuality, sodomy.  We have also seen same-sex marriage and other LGBT issues taken the forefront, and not only have the issues taken the forefront, but those that do not agree with these lifestyles are being penalized.

The prophecy that is being fulfilled here can be found in Luke 17:28, and also Genesis 19

(Luke 17:28) Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;

For more on this topic see also our post Thus shall it be and Sodom is here

The fourth agitation escalating crime, and we need not here detail the horrific crimes that have happen in our neighborhoods, or across town, in our country or other countries, but we know these stories all too well.  There are some cities that have become so dangerous that even the cops are scared.  We are reminded of godly counsel to “get out of the city”, you can read our post, Seven reasons for leaving the cities.

The Bible tells us, “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”  (Matthew 24:12)

The fifth world agitation we will look at is the weather phenomenon.  All of us has been affected by the strange weather patterns.  A lot of weather related records are being broken, the coldest it has been in 100 years, or the hottest.  We are seeing powerful destructive tornadoes and hurricanes, floods, droughts, etc.   Even the fruit trees are bearing out-of-order,  they are bearing out of season.

The day of test and purification is just upon us. Signs of a most startling character appear, in floods, in hurricanes, in tornadoes, in cloudbursts, in casualties by land and by sea, that proclaim the approach of the end of all things. The judgments of God are falling on the world, that men may be awakened to the fact that Christ will come speedily” (The Review and Herald, November 8, 1892). {7BC 950.5}

The sixth agitation is the movements.  For the first time in history, the pope, Pope Francis, is a Jesuit.  Never before has this happened, do we understand what this mean?  For more on this you can chapter 12 of the book The Great Controversy also read our post A Jesuit elected as the new pope. The current pope is also a people’s person.  He mixes well with the common people and the lest fortunate.  He is going about doing good.  Let us remember the words of Christ “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” (Matthew 24:24)  What is all of this preparing the world for?

As the crowning act in the great drama of deception, Satan himself will personate Christ. The church has long professed to look to the Saviour’s advent as the consummation of her hopes. Now the great deceiver will make it appear that Christ has come. In different parts of the earth, Satan will manifest himself among men as a majestic being of dazzling brightness, resembling the description of the Son of God given by John in the Revelation. Revelation 1:13-15. The glory that surrounds him is unsurpassed by anything that mortal eyes have yet beheld. The shout of triumph rings out upon the air: “Christ has come! Christ has come!” The people prostrate themselves in adoration before him, while he lifts up his hands and pronounces a blessing upon them, as Christ blessed His disciples when He was upon the earth. His voice is soft and subdued, yet full of melody. In gentle, compassionate tones he presents some of the same gracious, heavenly truths which the Saviour uttered; he heals the diseases of the people, and then, in his assumed character of Christ, he claims to have changed the Sabbath to Sunday, and commands all to hallow the day which he has blessed. He declares that those who persist in keeping holy the seventh day are blaspheming his name by refusing to listen to his angels sent to them with light and truth. This is the strong, almost overmastering delusion. Like the Samaritans who were deceived by Simon Magus, the multitudes, from the least to the greatest, give heed to these sorceries, saying: This is “the great power of God.” Acts 8:10. {GC 624.2}

Another  historic event for the papacy is the resignation of pope Benedict XVI.  This is only the second time in history that this has happened, and you will be amazed at the parallelism with then and now, read our article here.

The seventh and final agitation of the world that we will briefly look at is the unrest, riot and bloodshed that is sweeping the world.  We have seen this is Libya, Egypt, Syria and many other countries mainly in northern Africa and the middle east.  According to prophecy the unrest, riot and bloodshed will not just be limited to those areas mentioned, this will be world-wide.

At the same time anarchy is seeking to sweep away all law, not only divine, but human. The centralizing of wealth and power; the vast combinations for the enriching of the few at the expense of the many; the combinations of the poorer classes for the defense of their interests and claims; the spirit of unrest, of riot and bloodshed; the world-wide dissemination of the same teachings that led to the French Revolution—all are tending to involve the whole world in a struggle similar to that which convulsed France. {Ed 228.2}

It would prove a tremendous blessing for us to read and re-read the chapter 15 “The Bible and the French revolution” in the book The Great Controversy, click here to read it.

Jesus says in the book of John “And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.” (John 14:29)  So now that these signs, agitations are coming to pass, “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” Luke 21:28 Let us “…follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth” (Revelation 14:4)

The crisis is stealing gradually upon us. The sun shines in the heavens, passing over its usual round, and the heavens still declare the glory of God. Men are still eating and drinking, planting and building, marrying, and giving in marriage. Merchants are still buying and selling. Men are jostling one against another, contending for the highest place. Pleasure lovers are still crowding to theaters, horse races, gambling hells. The highest excitement prevails, yet probation’s hour is fast closing, and every case is about to be eternally decided.Satan sees that his time is short. He has set all his agencies at work that men may be deceived, deluded, occupied and entranced, until the day of probation shall be ended, and the door of mercy be forever shut. – {DA 636.2}

..Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel (Seventh-day Adventist) Amos 4:12

French Revolution – the world-wide dissemination of the same teachings that led to the French Revolution—all are tending to involve the whole world in a struggle similar to that which convulsed France.

As I read chapter 15 of the book “The Great Controversy”, “The Bible and the French Revolution”, it is amazing to see the similarities then and now.  God in His wisdom caused the prophetess to write out the history of the French revolution, so that we may see the steady thread of events.
Ellen G. White writes concerning the book, The Great Controversy
The Lord has set before me matters which are of urgent importance for the present time, and which reach into the future. The words have been spoken in a charge to me, “Write in a book the things which thou hast seen and heard, and let it go to all the people; for the time is at hand when past history will be repeated.” I have been aroused at one, two, or three o’clock in the morning with some point forcibly impressed upon my mind, as if spoken by the voice of God…. – {CM 128.1}
I was shown … that I should devote myself to writing out the important matters for volume 4 [The Great Controversy]; that the warning must go where the living messenger could not go, and that it would call the attention of many to the important events to occur in the closing scenes of this world’s history.—Letter 1, 1890. – {CM 128.2}
The book The Great Controversy, I appreciate above silver or gold, and I greatly desire that it shall come before the people. While writing the manuscript of The Great Controversy, I was often conscious of the presence of the angels of God. And many times the scenes about which I was writing were presented to me anew in visions of the night, so that they were fresh and vivid in my mind.—Letter 56, 1911. – {CM 128.3} – CM 128.1-3
I have posted below some excerpts from chapter 15 of the Great Controversy, i pray that you may be blessed, and that you may see the striking similarities back then to now, and see where are in time, and what is about to take place very soon.

Do we see anarchy in the world today? Is it just limited to the Middle East, or will it involve the whole world?

At the same time anarchy is seeking to sweep away all law, not only divine, but human. The centralizing of wealth and power; the vast combinations for the enriching of the few at the expense of the many; the combinations of the poorer classes for the defense of their interests and claims; the spirit of unrest, of riot and bloodshed; the world-wide dissemination of the same teachings that led to the French Revolutionall are tending to involve the whole world in a struggle similar to that which convulsed France. – {Ed 228.2}

Egypt-clashe

The nations are in unrest. Times of perplexity are upon us. Men’s hearts are failing them for fear of the things that are coming upon the earth. But those who believe in God will hear His voice amid the storm, saying, “It is I; be not afraid.”—The Signs of the Times, October 9, 1901. – {LDE 19.4}

The world is in unrest, one of the signs that the end is near; we are told by Jesus Christ to “look up”, “follow the Lamb”, so that we can “Finish the Work”.

We are living in a time that calls for decided action. The world is more bitterly opposed than ever to Gospel reform. But notwithstanding this, God’s work is to go forward. The words of Christ come down to us who are living at the close of the earth’s history: “When these things shall begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” The nations are in unrest. Times of perplexity are upon us. Men’s hearts are failing them for fear of the things that are coming upon the earth. But those who believe in God will hear His voice amid the storm, saying, “It is I; be not afraid.” The world is lying in wickedness and apostasy. Rebellion to God’s law seems almost universal. But amid the tumult of excitement, with confusion in every place, there is a work to be done for God in the world. – {ST October 9, 1901 Par. 11}

Prophetic events are fast becoming history, O, how quickly today prophecies are fulfilling.

We are standing on the threshold of great and solemn events. Prophecies are fulfilling. Strange and eventful history is being recorded in the books of heaven—events which it was declared should shortly precede the great day of God. Everything in the world is in an unsettled state. The nations are angry, and great preparations for war are being made. Nation is plotting against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. The great day of God is hastening greatly. But although the nations are mustering their forces for war and bloodshed, the command to the angels is still in force that they hold the four winds until the servants of God are sealed in their foreheads.—Manuscript 117, 1908. – {3MR 313.1}

“…the world-wide dissemination of the same teachings that led to the French Revolution—all are tending to involve the whole world in a struggle similar to that which convulsed France.” There is a continual war against the word of God even today, subtle and not so subtle.

The war against the Bible, carried forward for so many centuries in France, culminated in the scenes of the Revolution. That terrible outbreaking was but the legitimate result of Rome’s suppression of the Scriptures.  It presented the most striking illustration which the world has ever witnessed of the working out of the papal policy—an illustration of the results to which for more than a thousand years the teaching of the Roman Church had been tending. – {GC 265.2}

“And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.” Revelation 11:5. Men cannot with impunity trample upon the word of God. The meaning of this fearful denunciation is set forth in the closing chapter of the Revelation: “I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Revelation 22:18, 19. – {GC 268.1}

Such are the warnings which God has given to guard men against changing in any manner that which He has revealed or commanded. These solemn denunciations apply to all who by their influence lead men to regard lightly the law of God. They should cause those to fear and tremble who flippantly declare it a matter of little consequence whether we obey God’s law or not. All who exalt their own opinions above divine revelation, all who would change the plain meaning of Scripture to suit their own convenience, or for the sake of conforming to the world, are taking upon themselves a fearful responsibility. The written word, the law of God, will measure the character of every man and condemn all whom this unerring test shall declare wanting. – {GC 268.2}

Do we see the similarity in our world today, where man’s wisdom, so called “science” is replacing the word of God? (Evolution, scientific explanation for the increase in disasters, etc.) Do we see where the corruption of Sodom is becoming the norm? (Same sex marriage, for example)

“The great city” in whose streets the witnesses are slain, and where their dead bodies lie, is “spiritually” Egypt. Of all nations presented in Bible history, Egypt most boldly denied the existence of the living God and resisted His commands. No monarch ever ventured upon more open and highhanded rebellion against the authority of Heaven than did the king of Egypt. When the message was brought him by Moses, in the name of the Lord, Pharaoh proudly answered: “Who is Jehovah, that I should hearken unto His voice to let Israel go? I know not Jehovah, and moreover I will not let Israel go.” Exodus 5:2, A.R.V. This is atheism, and the nation represented by Egypt would give voice to a similar denial of the claims of the living God and would manifest a like spirit of unbelief and defiance. “The great city” is also compared, “spiritually,” to Sodom. The corruption of Sodom in breaking the law of God was especially manifested in licentiousness. And this sin was also to be a pre-eminent characteristic of the nation that should fulfill the specifications of this scripture. {GC 269.2}

According to the words of the prophet, then, a little before the year 1798 some power of satanic origin and character would rise to make war upon the Bible. And in the land where the testimony of God’s two witnesses should thus be silenced, there would be manifest the atheism of the Pharaoh and the licentiousness of Sodom. – {GC 269.3}

Strikingly, we can see the same attack on the sacred entity, of marriage, read the statement below, it very much describes what is happening in our society today, “history will be repeated”. “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.” -Ecclesiastes 1:9

France presented also the characteristics which especially distinguished Sodom. During the Revolution there was manifest a state of moral debasement and corruption similar to that which brought destruction upon the cities of the plain. And the historian presents together the atheism and the licentiousness of France, as given in the prophecy: “Intimately connected with these laws affecting religion, was that which reduced the union of marriage—the most sacred engagement which human beings can form, and the permanence of which leads most strongly to the consolidation of society—to the state of a mere civil contract of a transitory character, which any two persons might engage in and cast loose at pleasure…. If fiends had set themselves to work to discover a mode of most effectually destroying whatever is venerable, graceful, or permanent in domestic life, and of obtaining at the same time an assurance that the mischief which it was their object to create should be perpetuated from one generation to another, they could not have invented a more effectual plan that the degradation of marriage…. Sophie Arnoult, an actress famous for the witty things she said, described the republican marriage as ‘the sacrament of adultery.’”—Scott, vol. 1, ch. 17. – {GC 270.1}

The next order of things in France after atheism and the sins of Sodom, was “renouncing the worship of the living God”. The US, and the entire world will do so by passing a “Sunday Law”

The fear of God was said to be so far from the beginning of wisdom that it was the beginning of folly. All religious worship was prohibited, except that of liberty and the country. The “constitutional bishop of Paris was brought forward to play the principal part in the most impudent and scandalous farce ever acted in the face of a national representation…. He was brought forward in full procession, to declare to the Convention that the religion which he had taught so many years was, in every respect, a piece of priestcraft, which had no foundation either in history or sacred truth. He disowned, in solemn and explicit terms, the existence of the Deity to whose worship he had been consecrated, and devoted himself in future to the homage of liberty, equality, virtue, and morality. He then laid on the table his episcopal decorations, and received a fraternal embrace from the president of the Convention. Several apostate priests followed the example of this prelate.”—Scott, vol. 1, ch. 17. – {GC 274.1}

Liberty, equality, virtue, and morality, “Goddess of Reason”, Statue of Liberty?

After France had renounced the worship of the living God, “the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity,” it was only a little time till she descended to degrading idolatry, by the worship of the Goddess of Reason, in the person of a profligate woman. And this in the representative assembly of the nation, and by its highest civil and legislative authorities! Says the historian: “One of the ceremonies of this insane time stands unrivaled for absurdity combined with impiety. The doors of the Convention were thrown open to a band of musicians, preceded by whom, the members of the municipal body entered in solemn procession, singing a hymn in praise of liberty, and escorting, as the object of their future worship, a veiled female, whom they termed the Goddess of Reason. Being brought within the bar, she was unveiled with great form, and placed on the right of the president, when she was generally recognized as a dancing girl of the opera…. To this person, as the fittest representative of that reason whom they worshiped, the National Convention of France rendered public homage. – {GC 275.1}

Said the orator who introduced the worship of Reason: “Legislators! Fanaticism has given way to reason. Its bleared eyes could not endure the brilliancy of the light. This day an immense concourse has assembled beneath those gothic vaults, which, for the first time, re-echoed the truth. There the French have celebrated the only true worship,—that of Liberty, that of Reason. There we have formed wishes for the prosperity of the arms of the Republic. There we have abandoned inanimate idols for Reason, for that animated image, the masterpiece of nature.”—M. A. Thiers, History of the French Revolution, vol. 2, pp. 370, 371. – {GC 275.3}

“Downward March to Perdition”

This was followed, not long afterward, by the public burning of the Bible. On one occasion “the Popular Society of the Museum” entered the hall of the municipality, exclaiming, “Vive la Raison!” and carrying on the top of a pole the half-burned remains of several books, among others breviaries, missals, and the Old and New Testaments, which “expiated in a great fire,” said the president, “all the fooleries which they have made the human race commit.”—Journal of Paris, 1793, No. 318. Quoted in Buchez-Roux, Collection of Parliamentary History, vol. 30, pp. 200, 201. – {GC 276.3}

It was popery that had begun the work which atheism was completing. The policy of Rome had wrought out those conditions, social, political, and religious, that were hurrying France on to ruin. Writers, in referring to the horrors of the Revolution, say that these excesses are to be charged upon the throne and the church. (See Appendix.) In strict justice they are to be charged upon the church. Popery had poisoned the minds of kings against the Reformation, as an enemy to the crown, an element of discord that would be fatal to the peace and harmony of the nation. It was the genius of Rome that by this means inspired the direst cruelty and the most galling oppression which proceeded from the throne. – {GC 276.4}
The spirit of liberty went with the Bible. Wherever the gospel was received, the minds of the people were awakened. They began to cast off the shackles that had held them bondslaves of ignorance, vice, and superstition. They began to think and act as men. Monarchs saw it and trembled for their despotism. – {GC 277.1}

Economic collapse – Are we in an economic free fall? Who are the ones actually flourishing at this time?

“With the flight of the Huguenots a general decline settled upon France. Flourishing manufacturing cities fell into decay; fertile districts returned to their native wildness; intellectual dullness and moral declension succeeded a period of unwonted progress. Paris became one vast almshouse, and it is estimated that, at the breaking out of the Revolution, two hundred thousand paupers claimed charity from the hands of the king. The Jesuits alone flourished in the decaying nation, and ruled with dreadful tyranny over churches and schools, the prisons and the galleys.” – {GC 279.2}

The gospel holds the solution for all the world’s problems.

The gospel would have brought to France the solution of those political and social problems that baffled the skill of her clergy, her king, and her legislators, and finally plunged the nation into anarchy and ruin. But under the domination of Rome the people had lost the Saviour’s blessed lessons of self-sacrifice and unselfish love. They had been led away from the practice of self-denial for the good of others. The rich had found no rebuke for their oppression of the poor, the poor no help for their servitude and degradation. The selfishness of the wealthy and powerful grew more and more apparent and oppressive. For centuries the greed and profligacy of the noble resulted in grinding extortion toward the peasant. The rich wronged the poor, and the poor hated the rich. – {GC 279.3}

In many provinces the estates were held by the nobles, and the laboring classes were only tenants; they were at the mercy of their landlords and were forced to submit to their exorbitant demands. The burden of supporting both the church and the state fell upon the middle and lower classes, who were heavily taxed by the civil authorities and by the clergy. “The pleasure of the nobles was considered the supreme law; the farmers and the peasants might starve, for aught their oppressors cared…. The people were compelled at every turn to consult the exclusive interest of the landlord. The lives of the agricultural laborers were lives of incessant work and unrelieved misery; their complaints, if they ever dared to complain, were treated with insolent contempt. The courts of justice would always listen to a noble as against a peasant; bribes were notoriously accepted by the judges; and the merest caprice of the aristocracy had the force of law, by virtue of this system of universal corruption. Of the taxes wrung from the commonalty, by the secular magnates on the one hand, and the clergy on the other, not half ever found its way into the royal or episcopal treasury; the rest was squandered in profligate self-indulgence. And the men who thus impoverished their fellow subjects were themselves exempt from taxation, and entitled by law or custom to all the appointments of the state. The privileged classes numbered a hundred and fifty thousand, and for their gratification millions were condemned to hopeless and degrading lives.” (See Appendix.) – {GC 279.4}

But the outworking of all this was widely different from what Rome had purposed. Instead of holding the masses in a blind submission to her dogmas, her work resulted in making them infidels and revolutionists. Romanism they despised as priestcraft. They beheld the clergy as a party to their oppression. The only god they knew was the god of Rome; her teaching was their only religion. They regarded her greed and cruelty as the legitimate fruit of the Bible, and they would have none of it. – {GC 281.2}

Rome had misrepresented the character of God and perverted His requirements, and now men rejected both the Bible and its Author. She had required a blind faith in her dogmas, under the pretended sanction of the Scriptures. In the reaction, Voltaire and his associates cast aside God’s word altogether and spread everywhere the poison of infidelity. Rome had ground down the people under her iron heel; and now the masses, degraded and brutalized, in their recoil from her tyranny, cast off all restraint. Enraged at the glittering cheat to which they had so long paid homage, they rejected truth and falsehood together; and mistaking license for liberty, the slaves of vice exulted in their imagined freedom. – {GC 281.3}

Wars and rumours of wars

Iran, Israel, the US and North Korea, what do they all have in common, war and rumors of war. War talk, coming from nations that are armed with deadly nuclear weapons. At least two of these nations for sure have nuclear weapons (US and North Korea), one most likely has it (Israel) and Iran is said to be pursuing it (maybe already has it). In any case the talk of war and the increase in tensions can lead to mass catastrophe.

The Bible says:

“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars:see that ye be not troubled:for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.” (Matthew 24:6-7)

Kim Jong-un meets top North Korean military officials

From the book education we read:

The present is a time of overwhelming interest to all living. Rulers and statesmen, men who occupy positions of trust and authority, thinking men and women of all classes, have their attention fixed upon the events taking place about us. They are watching the strained, restless relations that exist among the nations. They observe the intensity that is taking possession of every earthly element, and they recognize that something great and decisive is about to take place—that the world is on the verge of a stupendous crisis. – {Ed 179.5}

From the book last days events we read:

We shall see troubles on all sides. Thousands of ships will be hurled into the depths of the sea. Navies will go down, and human lives will be sacrificed by millions. Fires will break out unexpectedly and no human effort will be able to quench them. The palaces of earth will be swept away in the fury of the flames. Disasters by rail will become more and more frequent. Confusion, collision, and death without a moment’s warning will occur on the great lines of travel. The end is near, probation is closing. Oh, let us seek God while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near!—Messages to Young People, 89, 90 (1890). – {LDE 24.1}

Indeed, “the end is near, probation is closing”, if there is a nuclear war, millions of lives will be sacrificed. It is time to “seek God while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near”, the end of all things is at hand. In the words of Prophet Amos, …prepare to meet thy God, O Israel [Gods people]. (Amos 4:12)

A Jesuit Elected As The New Pope

For the first time ever, a Jesuit has been elected as the pope. This all falls inline and make sense as we look back at the posting we did last month, The last Time a Pope Resigned. If you know the history of the Jesuits, who they are, their motives and what they are capable of doing, then Pope Benedict may have had a lot of help making his decision to resign.

I thank God for His word, both the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy, which shows us that history repeats itself. If you haven’t read the book The Great Controversy(click to read), I urge you to do so, especially chapters 5 and 15 for insight on the pope’s resignation and the Jesuits.

From NBC news we read: (Blue emphasis added)

Pope Francis is unique not just for being the first Latin American pope. He’s also the first Jesuit pope, possibly signaling a renewed emphasis on traditional Catholic theology by the church.

The Society of Jesus, as the Jesuits are formally known, observes a vow of poverty, and as archbishop of Buenos Aires, the former Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was known for his accessibility and simplicity, said Michael Sheeran, president-elect of the American Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities.

“Pope Francis took the bus to work every day,” Sheeran said in a live online discussion of Bergoglio’s election. “He sold the cardinal’s residence and lived in a small apartment where he cooked for himself.”

A few things from the article I would like to point out, first of all, this is the first Jesuit pope, second, possible a renewed emphasis on traditional catholic theology and the Jesuits observe a vow of poverty. Now we will learn who the are the Jesuits from the book The Great Controversy.

Throughout Christendom, Protestantism was menaced by formidable foes. The first triumphs of the Reformation past, Rome summoned new forces, hoping to accomplish its destruction. At this time the order of the Jesuits was created, the most cruel, unscrupulous, and powerful of all the champions of popery. Cut off from earthly ties and human interests, dead to the claims of natural affection, reason and conscience wholly silenced, they knew no rule, no tie, but that of their order, and no duty but to extend its power. The gospel of Christ had enabled its adherents to meet danger and endure suffering, undismayed by cold, hunger, toil, and poverty, to uphold the banner of truth in face of the rack, the dungeon, and the stake. To combat these forces, Jesuitism inspired its followers with a fanaticism that enabled them to endure like dangers, and to oppose to the power of truth all the weapons of deception. There was no crime too great for them to commit, no deception too base for them to practice, no disguise too difficult for them to assume. Vowed to perpetual poverty and humility, it was their studied aim to secure wealth and power, to be devoted to the overthrow of Protestantism, and the re-establishment of the papal supremacy. – {GC 234.2}
When appearing as members of their order, they wore a garb of sanctity, visiting prisons and hospitals, ministering to the sick and the poor, professing to have renounced the world, and bearing the sacred name of Jesus, who went about doing good. But under this blameless exterior the most criminal and deadly purposes were often concealed. It was a fundamental principle of the order that the end justifies the means. By this code, lying, theft, perjury, assassination, were not only pardonable but commendable, when they served the interests of the church. Under various disguises the Jesuits worked their way into offices of state, climbing up to be the counselors of kings, and shaping the policy of nations. They became servants to act as spies upon their masters. They established colleges for the sons of princes and nobles, and schools for the common people; and the children of Protestant parents were drawn into an observance of popish rites. All the outward pomp and display of the Romish worship was brought to bear to confuse the mind and dazzle and captivate the imagination, and thus the liberty for which the fathers had toiled and bled was betrayed by the sons. The Jesuits rapidly spread themselves over Europe, and wherever they went, there followed a revival of popery. – {GC 235.1} – GC 234-235

Well said, this gives us a view as to who the new pope is, and what is “about to come upon this world as an overwhelming surprise”. The time is at hand, mass deception and persecution cannot be afar off. Truly, truly we are living in the last days, and what is happening in the Roman Church, with the economic crisis, natural disasters, corruption, crime,… ”

Thus saith the Lord GOD; An evil, an only evil, behold, is come.
An end is come, the end is come: it watcheth for thee; behold, it is come.
The morning is come unto thee, O thou that dwellest in the land: the time is come, the day of trouble is near, and not the sounding again of the mountains.” (Ezekiel 7:5-7)

“Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.” (Amos 4:12)

Christians should be preparing for what is soon to break upon the world as an overwhelming surprise, and this preparation they should make by diligently studying the word of God and striving to conform their lives to its precepts. {PK 626.1}

The world without doubt, draws to an end.

There is so much happening in the word today prophetically, that like Ridley, i must say The world without doubtthis I do believe, and therefore I say itdraws to an end. ” {GC 303.3}

“…Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.” (Revelation 18:2)  God is allowing many things to come to light so that Babylon (Rome) can be exposed, because very soon we will have to make the ultimate decision, whether we will follow Christ, or Satan, Whether we will receive the seal of God or the mark of the beast.  Below is part of an online news article.

It is a week when the Catholic Church hoped to look forward, as the College of Cardinals prepares to elect a new pope.

But, instead the church finds itself confronting ghosts of the past.

A British cardinal has resigned amid allegations of inappropriate relationships with priests.

Italian papers are filled with reports of sexual escapades inside the Vatican itself.

And now word that a U.S. cardinal accused of hiding sexual abuse by priests will be among those choosing the new pope, which has many wondering if the Catholic Church is once again turning a blind eye to its own failings.

All this and more is happening in a religious institution, that sees itself as the moral authority on earth, as being infallible, as being Christ representative on earth.  Brothers and sisters, if you are a Catholic and you truly love the Lord, the Bible says:

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.” (Revelation 18:4-5)

This scripture points forward to a time when the announcement of the fall of Babylon, as made by the second angel of Revelation 14 (verse 8), is to be repeated, with the additional mention of the corruptions which have been entering the various organizations that constitute Babylon, since that message was first given, in the summer of 1844. A terrible condition of the religious world is here described. With every rejection of truth the minds of the people will become darker, their hearts more stubborn, until they are entrenched in an infidel hardihood. In defiance of the warnings which God has given, they will continue to trample upon one of the precepts of the Decalogue, until they are led to persecute those who hold it sacred. Christ is set at nought in the contempt placed upon His word and His people. As the teachings of spiritualism are accepted by the churches, the restraint imposed upon the carnal heart is removed, and the profession of religion will become a cloak to conceal the basest iniquity. A belief in spiritual manifestations opens the door to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, and thus the influence of evil angels will be felt in the churches. – {GC 603.2}
Of Babylon, at the time brought to view in this prophecy, it is declared: “Her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.” Revelation 18:5. She has filled up the measure of her guilt, and destruction is about to fall upon her. But God still has a people in Babylon; and before the visitation of His judgments these faithful ones must be called out, that they partake not of her sins and “receive not of her plagues.” Hence the movement symbolized by the angel coming down from heaven, lightening the earth with his glory and crying mightily with a strong voice, announcing the sins of Babylon. In connection with his message the call is heard: “Come out of her, My people.” These announcements, uniting with the third angel’s message, constitute the final warning to be given to the inhabitants of the earth. – {GC 604.1} – GC 603-604

Christians awake, the end is near, “…the world is on the verge of a stupendous crisis.”(Ed 179.5) “Christians should be preparing for what is soon to break upon the world as an overwhelming surprise, and this preparation they should make by diligently studying the word of God and striving to conform their lives to its precepts.” – {Mar 68.7} – Mar 68.1-7

What to expect in 2013

The year 2012 has been an interesting year prophetically; from super storm Sandy, to the shootings in Aurora Colorado and Newtown Connecticut, the election of 2012, escalating crime and the continuing world economic crisis, any student of prophecy knows these are clear prophetic signs. So then, the question in our minds might be, what does the year 2013 holds? During 2012 there were many false predictions that the world will end on certain dates, most likely in 2013 there will be more false predictions. These false predictions, all instigated by the enemy himself because “… he knoweth that he hath but a short time.” -Revelation 12:12, so he is busy with false predictions to discourage those who may be seeking the Lord.

The day of “the Lord cometh as a thief”, but only to those that are in darkness, at the appropriate time, God will make known the day and the hour. “But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.” 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2 “But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.” 1 Thessalonians 5:4-5

God does not want us to be caught up in time setting, by a close study of the Bible and SOP, it will be revealed that when God maketh known the day and the hour to His saints, probation will be closed, so this information will not be for soul winning. At that time it will be said “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.” -Revelation 22:11

In the time of trouble we all fled from the cities and villages, but were pursued by the wicked, who entered the houses of the saints with a sword. They raised the sword to kill us, but it broke, and fell as powerless as a straw. Then we all cried day and night for deliverance, and the cry came up before God. The sun came up, and the moon stood still. The streams ceased to flow. Dark, heavy clouds came up and clashed against each other. But there was one clear place of settled glory, whence came the voice of God like many waters, which shook the heavens and the earth. The sky opened and shut and was in commotion. The mountains shook like a reed in the wind, and cast out ragged rocks all around. The sea boiled like a pot and cast out stones upon the land. And as God spoke the day and the hour of Jesus’ coming and delivered the everlasting covenant to His people, He spoke one sentence, and then paused, while the words were rolling through the earth. The Israel of God stood with their eyes fixed upward, listening to the words as they came from the mouth of Jehovah, and rolled through the earth like peals of loudest thunder. It was awfully solemn. And at the end of every sentence the saints shouted, “Glory! Alleluia!” Their countenances were lighted up with the glory of God; and they shone with the glory, as did the face of Moses when he came down from Sinai. The wicked could not look on them for the glory. And when the never-ending blessing was pronounced on those who had honored God in keeping His Sabbath holy, there was a mighty shout of victory over the beast and over his image. – {EW 34.1}

What we will be witnessing in 2013 is “…evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” 2 Timothy 3:13 The enemy has many ways in expressing his evilness wether it is through mass shootings, terrorist attacks, rapes, natural disasters, you name it, and as time continues, “The agencies of evil are combining their forces, and consolidating. They are strengthening for the last great crisis.” {ChS 52.2} They will do this until God says that’s enough. Not only will “evil men and seducers wax worse and worse”, but they are deceiving many (they that dwell on the earth – they that are caught up with the cares of this world) and they themselves are being deceived.
“There are many, even of those engaged in this movement for Sunday enforcement, who are blinded to the results which will follow this action. They do not see that they are striking directly against religious liberty. There are many who have never understood the claims of the Bible Sabbath, and the false foundation upon which the Sunday institution rests.”—Testimonies for the Church 5:711. – {ChS 161.2}

The Bible says, “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.” 1 Thessalonians 5:3. The world today is like an old peace of cloth, it is as if as one area seems to be fixed, another problem pops up somewhere else, or in another area. “as travail upon a woman with child”, the birth pains in 2013 will only get worse; we can expect an increase in natural disasters, crime, corruption, economic turmoil, riots, etc. we say this not because we rejoice in these things, but this is the last generation of earth’s history and the enemy is wroth. But even now each and everyone of us can be safe even in the “storm”, by being in the safe arms of Jesus. “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” -2 Peter 3:9

God wants His people at this time, “…not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. (1 Thessalonians 5:6-8) “…continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (2Timothy 3:14-17)

So brothers and sister brace yourself in 2013, we know not what will transpire, this or that, or wether events will happen in your particular area. But we do know that prophetic events will occur in 2013, they can only increase, “Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones.”—Testimonies for the Church 9:11. – {ChS 52.2} May I add, that great changes have already taken place? Homeland security since 911, the frequency and magnitude of natural disasters, the world’s economy? to name a few of the changes, and there are more to come. ” … The final movements will be rapid ones” “Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.” (Hebrews 3:12-15)
